Remember How You Felt
A few months ago, the algorithm presented me with a reminder.
A reminder of what I loved doing.
Amidst a rolling sequence of picturesque videos, a voice reflected…
“I think I was put on this earth to capture it,
I don’t think I love the experience as much as I love documenting it.
I love creating beautiful scenes,
Showing people what I saw, exactly as I saw it.
And, don’t get me wrong, I love this experience so much.
But, to document life,
and say this human experience is worthy of being seen,
that’s my joy.”
A few months prior, I got to witness a close friend begin her very own content creation journey. Metaphors and Mimosas is a #bookstagram founded on Samisha Rasen’s obsession with fantasy, romance and murder mystery fiction, paired with her flair for creative ideation and communication.
I got to watch Sam revel in the pursuit of building something that she was passionate about, in a way that mattered to her.
I was reminded of the ethereal sense of flow that dominates passion projects, when the effort feels effortless and, just like a good book, you fight sleep just to keep at it.
I think that I have this inherent desire - one that I did not choose nor can I shake - to document and to express. Content creation, then, offers an avenue to lean into everything that feels authentically me.
We are each an amalgamation of a rather unique set of interests, irritations, backgrounds and experiences. All the things that make you, distinctly you.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed, perhaps even zombified, by the humdrum of life - doing the things you need to do, to survive another day.
But, sometimes in life, we are jarred awake by moments that remind us of who we are and what we’re about.
When that happens, I don’t think it’s enough to simply remember the things that made you feel most alive. The uniqueness of you, encoded in your genes, demands that you let it thrive.
I hope that this is that jarring moment for you.
Thanks for reading,
